He added that the original dates had been removed using special liquid erasers and replaced with locally printed stickers, an offence under UNBS’ rules.
“Some other products had conflicting shelf lives of 12 months and two years on the same products,” Musimami noted.
Earlier last week, UNBS also seized a range of flavoured drinks from Mob Investment, the producers of Maisha Mango juice, Kigezi Bushera, Real flavored mango drink and Real flavoured orange drink from the manufacturer’s premises along Kamuli road in Bweyogerere, following a tip-off from a consumer.
Musimami added that when they inspected the premises of Mob Investments, they found the drinks were being produced from unhygienic conditions, something that violates the Uganda Standards (US) 28:2002
“I would like to urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious elements on our toll-free line: 0800 133 133,” Musimami urged.
When contacted, the owner of Luck Star Business Link, Lin You Quing, referred The Observer to his lawyer.
“I will give my lawyer your number so that he calls you and you ask him anything about the company,” said Quing. The lawyer never called us.
