A potholed road in Kampala
A potholed road in Kampala

As we approach the 2026 elections, many opposition supporters are disappointed that it has taken another five years without the much-anticipated regime change that they have been eagerly hungering for, for the last 20 years.

The level of impunity, corruption, human rights abuse, and similar evils by the NRM regime reached disgusting levels a long time ago. On top of this pain, there is a new thorn in the flesh in the names of Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the first son, who spews absurdities, profanities and ridicule any way he pleases, especially on his social media handle.

Opposition supporters lost hope in this regime many years ago. They are earnestly looking for leadership in taking over government. This can be demonstrated in the voting patterns of Kampala, the epicenter of opposition, since 2006.

For example, in 2021, 76 out of every 100 voters in Kampala voted against Museveni as president. This information is freely available on the Electoral Commission website.

Opposition leaders on the whole do not seem to fully appreciate the urgency with which the opposition supporters desperately need change. Ugandans are fed up with all the blatant excesses of this regime. They figured it out a long time ago that being the minority, opposition members of parliament can never have an impact in parliament.

So, while an MP is expected to represent the people’s voices in parliament, Ugandans are fully aware that regime apologists, being the majority, will never allow for this to happen. Oppressive laws are passed without any regard as to what the population thinks. Case in point being the recent Coffee Bill and the UPDF (Amendment) Bill.

Ugandans lost hope in the parliament a long time ago. The primary role of an MP is being a voice of the people. This is on paper, according to opposition voters. On the ground, constituents in Kampala and Wakiso expect their political leaders to come up with actionable ideas on how to end this regime.

Opposition voters are not interested in hearing what is happening in parliament. They are not. News from parliament gives them heartache, pain, sadness, pity, distress, mental breakdowns, anger, bitterness, tears, and every known form of disgust.

They have been hearing the same heartbreaking recounts of corruption, abuse, and nepotism for the last 20 years. They are so sick and tired from all the bad news from parliament.

To add salt to injury, the majority of aspiring opposition political leaders are coming out to say they will make sure that their people’s voices are heard in parliament. Supporters know that this is a lie. Their voices have not been taken into consideration for the so many years. Granted, the leaders have done their role in speaking out.

But the truth is their voices will never be heard, and have eventually made peace with this. Moving forward, opposition voters only want updates on when, strategies, ideas, and efforts to ending this regime.

Buying ambulances, organizing football tournaments, making different contributions in communities, and attending burials is good, but it is beside the point. The population is tired and sinking deeper in debts, poverty, joblessness and depression from the overwhelming oppression by this regime.

Their number one expectation is regime change. Since we have a few months to the elections, any opposition member who is not capable of fulfilling this expectation from constituents in an opposition stronghold should be honourable enough not to vie for leadership.

Voters want leaders who are ready to lead the action of strategies towards a peaceful transition. Voters are fully aware that even after voting for the change they seek, the regime has numerously engaged in malpractices to influence the election outcome in their favour.

However, even within these five years since 2021, they hoped to see alternative strategies for regime change. Voters need to see that leaders fully appreciate this concern and are working tirelessly to its fulfilment.

If possible, details of heart-wrenching updates on happenings should be minimized because they only serve to induce hopelessness. Strong emphasis should be placed on giving updates on plans and updates to end this regime.

  1. Namaganda, hiccup jebale ezo zo kola…

You have written a wonderful piece but to my hung over self, it seems silent on actual strategies…
How do you plan on removing “my Jaja”(I might be a spy, you never know)?

You opposition just talk and lament.

    Let a drunkard take you to school;

    1. Make sure you have parallel tallying centers that are easily accessible but cannot be raided and interfered with.

    2. Make sure you have a “dynamic” candidate agent system. This business of putting clowns in those roles who are easily “bribeable” must stop
    Hiccup

    Just 2 of those…

If you can’t cut it (dislodging “my Jaja”) at least during the campaign period(this is where we hope to see your seriousness) and you start lamenting and crying then please GO HOME.

“Dictators” only stay in power because they are challenged by clowns(COMEDY)…

    Explanation
The entire Haitian army was once”kuwambada”/put on gun point by just 8 guys. If there was serious opposition “papa doc” would not be considered a dictator…

    2. You cry about MK but to my knowledge his only known achievement is commanding an “elite commando unit” to separate a knife wielding individual from a Ms. Mutagamba( this is his CV- and you lament that he gives you headache, if you are not CLOWNS then I do not know ?)

Better get serious don’t be like chicken(opposition) that fights in the middle of the road while a car(“my Jaja”) is speeding towards them
    OR
A toddler who urinates on the floor and then slips and falls in the urine- funny but tragic.

    You are aspiring ?

And have called on those who cannot cut it to bow out ?

Gundi, you are assuming the mantle but if you fail and UGANDANS decide to take things in their own hands, NO ONE WILL BE SAFE , if you are doing it, do it to win and save us the “schwifty” phase of Uganda.

    JAJA TOVA KU MAIN
    Look for the vote
    Vote
    Guard the vote

  2. Wow ! Namaganda has just disqualified herself as a candidate as a woman MP for Kampala –!not is the opposition anyway)
Everything she writes is against the goal she is aspiring to achieve.
    Only one line should suffice:
“Ugandans lost hope in parliament a long time ago” she says.
If or when your argument is that eating meat is not only unhealthy but also a violation of animals rights , you can`t be the one vying to be the next butchery manager .

  3. Namaganda, take heart…
We are waiting to see if you are capable or clueless
If you lose a single supporter to; abductions by drones, extrajudicial/politically motivated killings or assault by “violent gangs” before or during elections and campaigns, then just know we will perceive you as “clueless” and an opportunist.

This stuff of “politics of problems” must stop. “Mr. Museveni has failed at this…” For you what is your solution?(Abductions- educate the populace on the right approach of arrest, once they know that, then they can “deal” with abductors on their own without your involvement)

Why should we tolerate you ?

We are to hold you at a higher standard because you claim to fight the “devil”.

Your supporters’ lives and hope are in your hands. Stop rhetoric and sloganeering and get solutions.

When I am passed out drunk, I see Ugandan in 2026 without Mr. Museveni and I wonder, are these clowns the people to replace him or are they just “time wasters”?

    Clowns because;
    1. They have money to give out pointlessly but not to educate voters on their rights and duties
    2. They lament on how bad Mr. Museveni has failed but cannot fair any better solution wise
3 Always complain about unfairness but cannot find solutions around that unfairness. Should I go on ?

WE HAVE SET A HIGH STANDARD FOR THE “OPPOSITION”.
Live up to it or go away.

    Hiccup.
Have you ever choked on your own vomit while semiconscious drunk ?

  4. “Opposition supporters lost hope in this regime many years ago”.

So then why do these dodgy political parties get so hyponotised to the extent of kneeling down to any, voters, civil servants and the incumbents?

These government officials are just servants of the citizens of this country and the dodgy money they are playing about with the poor people of this country is tax payers money.

It is certainly non of their money. Unfortunately there is increased tension when more money in political income and wages is activated. Politics for the African leadership it seems is about getting richer and buying off opponents left, right and centre to make business deals.

Economic principles dictate that the customer who then is the African voter is right. Of course if the customer in this country does not turn up to vote, no where would such a business stand!

As long as the Ganda tribes people continue to enjoy to participate in NRM dodgy national elections let alone illegal central government national elections, that are not free and fair, they are going to continue to cry corocodile tears until Jesus comes back to earth!

    1. Hogwash, hiccup

      Let people vote and let them be smart about it;

      1. Get familiar with the electoral laws(can be found on Google)

      2. Get serious with their “servants”; electoral officials- clowning around should not be tolerated; “…the electoral official ran away with nomination forms…”, Are you an idiot, couldn’t you pursue ?

“…we did not find our names…” Couldn’t you ask for the suspension/halting of the process until the issue is solved?( The electoral official suffers most because he will not be allowed to leave even if it is a week…)

      3. The votes tallied should match the votes declared. Set up parallel tallying centers that cannot be raided and give the electoral official an “escort” so that he does not get “lost” or “carelessly” loses the declaration forms. This can practically be done at every village polling station.

4 “Assist” police and the army to provide “security” at every village polling station in Uganda- Ugandans(“rebels”) greatly outnumber these 2 entities. Google it.

      5. Arrest any perpetrator of violence and hand them over to police. POLICE IS UNDER STAFFED so wrong elements exploit that…yeah right.

Hiccup, I will fart, hiccup, belch provide more belch when there is FAAART need.
      Hiccup

  5. I liked the comments questioning Namaganda’s ambivalence. From the surface reading, she appeared to be making a valid argument. However, she falls short of explaining why the opposition parties are now engaged in a fierce shadow-boxing among themselves, instead of facing their common adversary. Namaganda excited The Village Drunkard, who made several valid reactions. But I didn’t agree with him for blaming the opposition agents for being easily “bribeable.” Maybe he had taken a glass too many for the road to know that security forces arrest the opposition agents, lock them up until the “tallying” is over.

    1. Hiccup

      Eeeeehi !!!!

Since 1996, haven’t these clowns, sorry opposition, got a solution for that ?

Me thinks they like being the under dogs and get “jobs” through sympathy.

Well, good morning, beer swillers like me cannot sympathisize with IDIOTS.

If a subcounty police cell can hold 100 opposition agents then I suggest the opposition mobilise 500 agents to make “the police”(not actual professional police) “lose appetite ” for “locking” them up.

      Or
Bribe the police with women so that they do not lock the agents up(opposition does not have money but they have good looking women, it might be the beer seeing)

      Or
Invest in intelligence(LUGAMBO) so that they whisk away their agents before they are locked up.

The era of “problem politics” ends hiccup na na na na wuuu !

      Guuno munanansi

  6. M7 went to the bush because the 1980 elections were rigged. With the current rigging, why did M7 then go to the bush?

  7. Thanks Namaganda. But do not lose heart because, even most NRM supporters are now disillusioned and likewise desperate for a regime change. E.g., if you asked Hons Ssekikubbo, Tinkansimiire, Haj Naduli, and many other NRM supporters, whether or not they prefer Mr. M7 and/or son as the next president, you will be surprised

Most Ugandans are so desperate for a regime change because, if for 40 years they have never seen or received the minimum standard and/or quality social services such as in Health, education and others worth their year in, year out sweat and blood taxes they pay; what miracle will bring that about if they once again vote for our 80-year-old PROBLEM OF AFRICA during the 2026 General Election?

If Uganda is now among the most corrupt and indebted country in the world, what miracle will bring about the fundamental change BS Mr. M7 talked about 40 years ago, such as: ‘integrated, self-sustaining economy’? Else what we now have is a rigged, corrupt, ‘disintegrated and unsustainable economy’.

E.g., even after another 10 years, no single annual budget can change the status quo and/or create the jobs to employ the 87% unemployed youths, who are languishing in widespread poverty. Remember, tragically most of them born under this regime can’t marry (start a family).

For anybody who loves this country and its people, the 40-year NRM maladministration and accumulated deficit across the board; is exasperating and bewildering.

E.g., including borrowing, what budget can afford to fix the broken-down state of the roads and/or drainage in Kampala? How many years and what borrowing and/or budget can afford to renovate/rebuild, stock and equip/furnish our delipidated HOSPITALS and SCHOOLS worth their names?

In other words, the regime change that will take place will probably be so dramatic and even tragic, so much so that it will even take Mr. M7 and his buffoon son by surprise. Even God Himself cannot intervene!

  8. After the fall of Mr. M7 and/or his son, Ugandans should fundraise some good money in order to hire Mr. Moreno-Ocampo (if still alive), the first Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC). This is because after his term of office with the ICC the man successfully prosecuted the former Argentina dictator and his Generals who committed crimes against humanity on the people of Argentina.

E.g., after gloating over his abduction and torture of Eddy Mutwe in his basement, who in his/her right state of mind can deny that Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba committed one of the forbidden crimes against humanity on Eddy Mutwe and others who are still missing?

Who can deny that in Dec 2020, Gen Tibuhaburwa confessed of knowing (aiding and abetting) who extrajudicially murdered Boxer, Zebra Ssenyange in a hail of machinegun bullets?

In other words else they forget, Mr. M7, his son and/or Drone Operators should always be reminded what awaits for them at the EXIT of our State House. NEVER SAY NEVVER!
