Some of the exhibits found at Ronald Onyango's residence

The police in Luwero have arrested two suspects linked to the production, packaging, and sale of counterfeit cement.

The suspects, identified as Ronald Onyango and David Mutesasira, were apprehended on Friday following an intelligence-led operation. According to Sam Twiineamazima, Savannah Regional police spokesperson, the arrests followed a tip-off to the officer in charge at Luwero Central police station regarding a hardware store on Kasiiso road in Kasana town suspected of selling fake cement.

Twiineamazima said that a joint security team swiftly moved to the location and cordoned off the premises. A search conducted at the hardware store, owned by Ronald Onyango, yielded evidence that led police to his residence in the Kalongo-Miti Zone of Luwero town council.

There, officers recovered several bags of suspected counterfeit cement branded as Tororo, Hima, and Fundi. They also seized empty branded packaging bags and additional suspicious materials stored in two ordinary sacks.

A case of counterfeiting has been registered, and samples have been collected for laboratory analysis. Twiineamazima noted that representatives from the implicated cement companies have been contacted to provide statements, and investigations are ongoing.
