At least three people were injured on Sunday when a bus overturned in Kalongo town council, Agago district, due to mechanical failure.
The Isuzu bus, registration number, UAU 079Q, operated by HMK Company, was travelling from Kalongo town council to Patongo town council when its lighting system abruptly failed, according to police reports.
The driver, reportedly unable to see clearly, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and overturn. Among the injured were Bosco Koffi, a driver with the Agago District Local Government, Kizza, the bus driver, and an unidentified female passenger who sustained minor injuries and was rushed to a nearby clinic for treatment.
Police officers arrived at the scene to document the incident. Aswa East regional police spokesperson, IP Joe Oloya, confirmed the accident, attributing it to failures in the bus’s lighting and braking systems.
This accident adds to Uganda’s growing road safety concerns. According to the police’s 2024 crime report, road crashes in the country increased by 6.4 per cent, rising from 23,608 cases in 2023 to 25,107 in 2024.
