Police in Luwero have arrested a woman, Shakira Mbabazi, for allegedly stabbing her husband to death in a suspected case of domestic violence.

The deceased, Godfrey Kamoga, 29, a resident of Namawojja village, Zirobwe sub-county, was reportedly killed on Wednesday night after catching Mbabazi in a sexual affair with his friend inside their home.

According to Abdul Mazinga, Luwero district speaker and area councillor, a heated confrontation erupted between the couple, during which Mbabazi allegedly grabbed a knife and fatally stabbed Kamoga in the sitting room. He died instantly.

Following the incident, police transported Kamoga’s body to Luwero hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination, while Mbabazi was taken into custody for further investigations.

Luwero district has been grappling with a surge in domestic violence-related crimes. In December 2024, Reginah Namande, a resident of Kyamufumba village, Butuntumula sub-county, was arrested for allegedly killing her husband, Charles Bunjo, 54.

The couple had reportedly fought over suspicions of Namande’s infidelity before she struck Bunjo in the stomach with a stone, leading to his death. Namande is currently on remand at Butuntumula Prison.

According to the Annual Crime Report (2024), Luwero district ranked among the worst-affected areas in Uganda for domestic violence and homicide. At least 287 domestic violence cases were registered, ranking the district fifth highest nationwide, and 86 homicide cases were reported, making Luwero the second-highest district in the country for such crimes.

Authorities continue to urge residents to seek peaceful conflict resolution methods and report domestic disputes to law enforcement before they escalate into violence.
