Given that the last few months have demonstrated how international political and security affairs are evolving fast and are highly unpredictable, international systems and institutions are faced with severe disruptions, with foreign policies becoming more transactional, new alliances forming and creating new tensions amidst unresolved crises, Africa gets much affected and concerned.

The observation was made by Nils Wörmer, the director, KAS Security Dialogue for East Africa, at the signing ceremony for the organisation of the 8th edition of the Kampala Geopolitics Conference at Konrad Adenaeur Stiftung offices in Kololo, Kampala on March 13, 2025.

The conference is a partnership of Konrad Adenaeur Stiftung, the French embassy in Uganda, Alliance Française de Kampala and Makerere University. Wörmer signed on behalf of Konrad Adenaeur Stiftung; while Xavier Sticker, the ambassador, signed for the French embassy; Prof Mukadasi Buyinza, the deputy vice chancellor, Academic Affairs, for Makerere University; and Éric Touzé, the director, for Alliance Française de Kampala; The eight two-day conference will take place on April 9 and 10, 2025 at Makerere University.

It will focus on reform and re-composition of the UN Security Council, and conflicts and peacekeeping in Africa.

Cultural and artistic activities related to peace, security, gender and identity will punctuate the high-grade academic conference that will involve academicians, policymakers, artists and civil society. The conference will be a public event, with free entry for any member of the public.
