Sam OmalaFormer Assistant Commissioner of Police Sam Omala has passed away at the age of 64.

Omala, who had been battling prostate cancer and kidney failure, died Monday morning at Mulago national referral hospital, where he had been undergoing dialysis since last year.

Uganda Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke praised Omala for his dedication and professionalism.

Reflecting on his personal experience, Rusoke said, “I had the privilege of serving under him when he was head of operations for Kampala Metropolitan North. At the time, I was the DPC for Old Kampala. I can confidently say he was an astute and highly professional officer.”

During his career, Omala served in several key positions, including Kampala Metropolitan North Police operations commander and Field Force Unit (FFU) commander in Kampala. He became widely known during the 2011 ‘Walk-to-Work’ protests led by currently jailed Dr Kizza Besigye.

His approach to managing the demonstrations drew mixed reactions, with critics accusing him of heavy-handedness. He frequently deployed FFU officers and occasionally stationed them outside Besigye’s residence in Kasangati to prevent him from mobilizing supporters. A

fter retiring from the police, Omala transitioned to the private security sector, serving as deputy CEO of Arrow Security Services, a firm owned by Capt Mike Mukula. The company, with support from President Museveni, helped cover Omala’s medical expenses after his family appealed for assistance.

  1. So, all the hussle and bustle under this sun come to nought! A lesson for all of us. Let us live humble and dignified lives. Many people suffered in this man’s hands, but who am I to judge him. May his soul rest in peace.

  2. Uhuru, well said. The question is, do human beings (especially we Africans) ever learn? Power always seems to go to our heads, and drives us crazy. Haven’t the eulogies already begun, praising Ochola about how patriotic he was, simply because he was good at brutalizing and maiming innocent people?

  3. Good news SAM omara is dead, he never wanted people to walk to work, but he cant even walk home

  4. Uhuru, thanks.

Ugandans MUST UNITE to stop Rwandese Museveni, NOW, then form the kind of governance they want, to ensure they live well as long as God let them, in the zone formed by their tribal lands!

Even Ugandans who torture, punish, teargas, harrass…their own for Museveni die of old age, sickness… have no power to live forever, right?

Why are Ugandans only prepared to be enemies of one another, just ensure they are slaves of Rwandese Museveni & family for good?

Why are Ugandans punishing themselves like this & what is their Birth Rights?

    Zowe, thanks.

Enjoying suffering of one another has become entertainment for Ugandans, reason they won’t say NO to the tribalistic system & UNITE to stop Rwandese Museveni they know will rule for life & leave the post to his son!

Not even so called opposition leaders who further divide an already powerless divided ruled come out to defend one another when arrested, tortured…, right?

Who will bring change to impose who on Ugandans when it’s them ensuring their own enslavement & by all means?
