The April 4 Makerere University Business School (Mubs) cultural gala was nothing short of remarkable.
Held at Mubs’ campus in Nakawa, the event featured more than 40 dance troupes representing the Acholi, Langi, Bakiga, Karimojong, Baganda, South Sudanese, Iteso, Bamasaba, Banyoro, and West Nile. Mubs hosts the gala annually to expose students to the richness of Ugandan culture and emphasize the importance of preserving cultural norms and values.
It was a mix of traditional songs, cuisines, fashion and dances, creating a colourful, engaging atmosphere that radiated pride and identity.
Speaking at the event, Mubs Guild president Moses Amanya said: “This gala shows that our cultural differences are a source of strength. As students preparing to engage globally, it’s vital we uphold our roots.”
When the long drums, adungu, calabashes and xylophones finally fell silent, the atmosphere switched up with performances from Vinka and Fik Fameica, who brought an electrifying energy to the stage. Students danced and celebrated, closing the event on a high note.
