Sunday evening, Mestil Gardens unfolded into something magical as Kenny G – a household name in the 1990s and early noughties – graced Kampala with an intimate performance.

Kenny G

For two hours, the world-famous saxophonist whose tunes were once the only trusted accompaniment to a Ugandan wedding reception, thrilled fans. His entrance was as unassuming as it was breathtaking; just Kenny G in his signature blue suit, stepping into the glow of soft blue lights and filling the air with the tender notes of Loving You.

Kenny G is meticulous about his craft. His stage lighting was not the usual flashy display; it was subtle, warm, with blues, purples and golden hues wrapping around the music.

On stage, he seemed approachable, but the moment he lifted his soprano saxophone, it was clear there was nothing ordinary about what he does.

He gave Kampala a glimpse of his famed circular breathing technique once rumoured to let him hold a note for over 45 seconds, and the crowd gasped in admiration, watching a man in his sixties perform with the vitality of someone half his age.

Fans enjoy Kenny G show
