For many a diner, Glovo’s messy food deliveries have been a source of frustration, and this column has more often than not been a vocal critic of their unacceptable shortcomings.
However, to give credit where it is due, it is time to acknowledge Glovo’s remarkable turnaround in recent months. It feels absurd to celebrate something as basic as proper food delivery, but that’s how dire the situation once was.
Previously, scattered pizza slices with half the toppings clinging to the box lid and soups leaking into delivery bags were the norm. It was as if the food had been packed for a stray dog rather than paying customers.
Today, Glovo is finally delivering on its promise of convenience and efficiency. Despite becoming a monopoly after Jumia Foods exited the market, the company seems to have turned a corner.
Pizza now arrives intact, with toppings in place. Soups, guacamoles and other spill-prone dishes remain securely contained. Delivery timelines are adhered to with precision, and, believe it or not—riders now seem to have mastered the art of reading Google Maps.
Who would have thought we would live to witness an effective Glovo delivery service? Here is to hoping Glovo maintains these newfound standards of excellence.
Happy New Year, Glovo! May your deliveries continue to impress!
