Chinese smartphone manufacturer Tecno has showcased a new generation of smartphones and smart devices at IFA 2026 in Berlin, drawing attention with its Next-Gen Bezelless Concept phone.
The concept, unveiled at IFA ShowStoppers 2026, builds on the company’s Modular Concept Phone presented at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026, but takes a different approach by focusing on reducing the visible borders around the display.
Tecno says the concept achieves a 0mm display border, allowing the screen to extend almost completely to the edges of the handset. Achieving the design has required changes to the phone’s internal structure and the way its display components are arranged.
Although the device remains a concept, Tecno says the technology points towards a future in which smartphones could offer larger and more immersive displays without necessarily increasing their overall physical size.
The Hong Kong-based company is also using the Berlin event to showcase its broader portfolio of smartphones, laptops, tablets and other smart devices.
Among the products on display are the near-borderless concept smartphone, the 360-degree convertible MEGABOOK T15 360 Pro, new MEGABOOK computers, tablets and wearable devices.
Tecno is also displaying special-edition products developed through its partnership with Italian luxury brand Tonino Lamborghini.
The company’s push towards more capable and versatile devices comes as smartphones and computers increasingly combine communication, work, education and entertainment functions.
For markets such as Uganda, where consumers often rely on a single smartphone or laptop for several aspects of daily life, developments in display technology, artificial intelligence and device versatility could have practical implications.
Laptop doubles as tablet
Tecno is also demonstrating the MEGABOOK T15 360 Pro, a convertible laptop designed to adapt to different uses.
Its 360-degree hinge allows the computer to operate as a conventional laptop or fold into different positions for viewing content, browsing and creative work.
The device also features a 10-point touchscreen, giving users an additional way to interact with the computer.
Under the hood, the T15 360 Pro is powered by an Intel Core Ultra processor with an integrated neural processing unit (NPU), designed to accelerate artificial-intelligence workloads.
The laptop has a 15.6-inch 2.5K display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 70Wh battery. Users can also opt for MPP 2.0 active pen support for note-taking, drawing and other creative applications.
The concept reflects a broader shift in the personal-computing market towards hybrid devices that can serve multiple purposes.
Rather than requiring separate machines for work, entertainment, browsing and creative tasks, convertible computers are increasingly being designed to switch between different modes depending on the user’s needs.
Tecno’s IFA 2026 showcase therefore places less emphasis on adding another device to consumers’ collections and more on making individual devices capable of handling a wider range of tasks.
