All is set for the Kabaka Birthday Run due this Sunday, April 9.

The event is one of the festivities to mark the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi’s 62nd birthday.

For the third successive year, the Kabaka birthday run, which is a marathon event featuring five, 10 and 21-kilometre races around Kampala, will be used to raise awareness and money for a common cause.

Past editions were dedicated to fighting fistula but this year’s proceeds will go towards treating sickle cell victims. While launching the event last month, Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga said this run has become a source of hope for the vulnerable because the money raised from it helped treat many women.

Mayiga added that celebrating the Kabaka’s birthday with a sporting event of such importance is a noble cause, as it also enables people to celebrate togetherness and kindness towards other people who need help.

“The health of women is crucial to the development of our country. That is why the Kabaka’s package is given to the mothers of our nation. Last year, Shs 70 million was handed to Kitovu hospital to treat fistula patients.

Airtel Uganda is again partnering with the Buganda kingdom to make this marathon happen. And the telecommunications company has stood with the Buganda kingdom in this campaign since it started.
