Golfers Sam Kacungira and Vincent Katutsi staged a remarkable comeback to win the 2026 Stanbic bank-sponsored Entebbe Matchplay Championship last weekend after edging Richard Mwami and Tony Kisadha on the 21st hole in a dramatic sudden-death playoff.

The victory capped five months of fierce competition on Entebbe Golf Club’s par-71 lakeside course and earned the champions a maiden Stanbic Matchplay title.

Kacungira and Katutsi looked in control after going 2-up at the ninth, but former finalists Mwami and Kisadha fought back to take the lead late in the match. With defeat threatening, Kacungira produced a crucial shot on the 18th hole to force sudden death.

The playoff went three extra holes before the winners finally sealed victory on the 21st hole. Their prize package includes a fully paid trip to the DP Tour Championship in Dubai, a Stanbic Infinite Card, a Shs 500,000 initial deposit on a free investment account and Stanbic MediProtect cover, alongside partner rewards.

At the awards ceremony, Stanbic bank chief finance officer Ronald Makata announced the renewal of the bank’s partnership with the tournament.
