After being diagnosed, the Uganda Rugby Union launched a fundraising drive to support his bone marrow transplant in a bid to save his life, unfortunately, he lost the battle.
Seguya is a former captain of the Rugby Cranes and represented Uganda in various international competitions including the Rugby 7s at the Commonwealth Games in 2006 and 2010. Previously, he managed the national team side and clubs including the Buffaloes, Heathens, and Jinja Hippos.
Godwin Kayangwe, president of Uganda Rugby Union appreciated the deceased for his selfless contribution towards developing the sport in Uganda.
“Robert Seguya commonly known as Soggy in our rugby fraternity has been an icon, a legend, selfless in developing the game, and always willing to share as witnessed by his long stint as a coach at all levels, club, and national teams, not to mention his awesome gladiator skills on pitch that saw Uganda play at the helm in African rugby.”
Kayangwe said that the rugby fraternity has lost one of the best icons in the sport.
Phillip Wokorach, Uganda Rugby Cranes player via his Twitter handle, applauded the deceased for the impact he had in his career.
