Godfrey Nsereko and navigator Musisi

Uganda’s Dr Godfrey Nsereko has already set his rally ambitions on continental glory next year.

His confidence follows an impressive outing in last weekend’s Serengeti Tanzania Rally, where Nsereko secured the 2026 African Rally Championship (ARC4) title on his continental debut.

Driving a South African-built Toyota Etios and co-driven by John Bosco Musisi ‘Madman’, Nsereko dominated the two-wheel-drive class from start to finish. The crew also pushed for a top-six overall finish with consistently strong stage times.

“Come 2027, we are going full throttle. We want to shoot for the African title again and rubber-stamp our names on the continent’s motor sport hall of fame,” Nsereko told The Observer.

Musisi believes their success, despite competing in only three events this season, is proof that they can compete for bigger continental honours with improved preparation and a stronger budget.

The Serengeti challenge, however, was far from comfortable. Nsereko had to contend with hot, humid conditions and rough, sandy stages before sealing the ARC4 crown. Uganda still enjoyed another strong ARC2 showing through Oscar Ntambi and Pius Luggya.

The pair drove a measured rally to win the ARC2 class and finish fifth overall. Meanwhile, 2025 African champion Yasin Nasser, partnered by Ali Katumba, delivered as planned for sponsors Moil Tanzania, securing a podium finish.

Attention turns to Gulu, where Round Six of the KCB National Rally Championship (NRC) due this weekend, October 8 to 10, 2026.
