Brought in at the third round to spice up the event, the professionals proved par for the course with Phillip Kasozi overcoming Grace Ocici 4-2 and Denis Anguyo beating George Olayo 4-3 as the golf professionals joined the round-of-16 Singleton Challenge at Entebbe Club last weekend.
Fred Wanzala proved too good for Gerald Kabuye (2-1), Henry Luggya lost to Entebbe Club’s Dickson Lagoro (1-3) while Herman Mutawe defeated Opio Onito by a single stroke.
Uganda Professional Golfers Association (UPGA) captain Deo Akope earned a walkover to the next round of the challenge. Serwano Walusimbi, Johann Kisekulo and Bridget Basiima were among the top golfers that progressed.
In the ordinary category, Dan Kajungu and Collins Numwagira edged out Jerry Owachi and George Nkya to earn themselves the prize of fire extinguishers from Pinnacle Security.

The Alan Muhereza and Moses Matsiko pair also went into the fourth round after they beat the only female pair 3-2 comprising of Irene Nakalembe and Maureen Okura.
The latter proceeded to donate their extinguishers prize to the two ladies.
The two winning pairs earned themselves vouchers to play a round of golf at the state-of-the- art Serena Golf Course on April 11. In the other match-ups, the Moses Ssebugwawo/ Emmanuel Mugabi pair overcame Ray Kahiigi/ Ibra Bagalana while John Muchiiri/Isaac Mariera bettered Denis Onyango/ Andrew Ankunda’s combination.
David Balaka/Nkambwe G also triumphed over the John Kato/Phillip Ssebaale pair on the first hole sudden death challenge. Vincent Katutsi/Harry Hakiza’s no-show also sent the pairing of Kiryowa Kiwanuka and Elly Mukasa into the next round of the tournament.
The fourth round of the Singleton returns on April 8. The competition is a five- month long tourney that will see the winning pairwin an all-expenses paid trip to watch The Open at the Royal Birkdale in Southport, England.
