The Nile Special University Football League (UFL) enters the second round of games with Makerere University aiming to collect maximum points when they travel to Kampala International University (KIU) at Nsambya grounds.
The 2015 champions, Makerere, were forced to settle for a 3-3 draw against Busitema University while two-time semifinalists KIU opened their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Uganda Christian University (UCU).
Makerere’s Deo Bamwenyana was not impressed with the stalemate against a team many tipped to be the tournament’s whipping boys. He is now optimistic of victory over KIU and claims it’s time to kick-start the campaign for a second title.
“I was not impressed with the fighting spirit that my boys exhibited against Busitema; so, we have to up our game to get the rhythm going.

On the other hand, hosts KIU are aiming for nothing but three points and Geoffrey Akabwai, their coach, believes he has ironed out the mistakes from the first game. “We are going to play football the way we can despite coming up short in the first game. Against UCU, we lacked coordination but first games are always challenging.
“We have rectified the mistakes of the first game and Makerere should be ready for the game of their life.”
In the five meetings between the two teams since 2012, Makerere has an edge by virtue of winning three matches. KIU’s sole win came in 2013 when they hammered Makerere 4-0 in the group phase.
