Vipers’ Siraje Ssentamu controls the ball from Express’ Didier Toya

Champions KCCA FC handed Arua-based Ondurapaka their heaviest punishment in the Uganda Premier League (UPL) on Saturday with a 7-0 drubbing at the Phillip Omondi stadium.

Teenage striker Allan Okello, who graduated from KCCA’s academy recently, scored a sensational hattrick on his debut for the senior side. Robert Ssentongo had a brace, Geoffrey Sserunkuma and Paul Musamali added one apiece to complete the rout.

Meanwhile, action returns tomorrow with Vipers SC, Uganda’s representatives in the Caf Confederation Cup, hosting relegation-bound JMC Hippos at Namboole.

Last Friday’s goalless draw between Express FC and Vipers SC was one of the most dull UPL games witnessed at Wankulukuku stadium this season.

Apart from the fight over stadium branding between Azam TV, the official broadcasters of the league, and DStv, the official sponsors of Express, the entire game was bereft of any significant action.

For Express, who under new coach Matia Lule are in a rebuilding phase, it was a satisfying outcome. It was their second point earned in the second round of the season from three games. However, for Vipers, it raised many questions about their application, and whether they will be able to match South African side Platinum Stars next month in their next Caf tie.

“Our display was clearly disappointing,” said Vipers coach Richard Wasswa.

He explain that his team is still fatigued, following their exertions from their away game in Comoros, where they drew one-all with Volcan Club de Moroni.

The result meant Vipers qualified on the away goals rule on February 18. And that result was expected to inspire them, especially with their league ambitions at stake. But they are off colour. The midfield was short on creativity, which also made the attack look irrelevant.
