KCCA coach Mike Mutebi

A  few weeks ago, KCCA FC was in comfort zone, topping the league table with three games in hand over nearest rivals SC Villa. However, back-to-back draws against Soana and Police FC have drawn the Jogoos back into the title fold, writes JOHN VIANNEY NSIMBE.

KCCA cannot afford to slip up tomorrow when they host Bright Stars FC. It is unusual that KCCA FC takes the lead in a game and let it slip.

But the Uganda Premier League champions surrendered a two-goal lead against Police FC last Friday to share spoils. Police scored twice in the last 10 minutes of the game at Namboole.

A similar situation played out when KCCA drew one-all with Soana FC. However, with the fixtures coming thick and fast for KCCA, beating Bright Stars is of the utmost essence to maintain their chances of defending the league title.

KCCA manager Mike Mutebi was disappointed by the lack of concentration his team exhibited against Police.

“This is a game we should have won easily, but we shot ourselves in the foot,” said Mutebi.

He has urged his players to step up and beat Bright Stars as they prepare for their Caf Confederation Cup match against Egypt’s El Masry this weekend.

On Saturday, Villa defeated BUL FC 1-0 to move to 47 points. The Jogoos now lead the table by four points even though KCC has three games in hand.

KCCA started the second round with three successive wins, 10 goals scored and none conceded. But they have conceded three in two games, showing a lapse in defending.

They take on a Bright Stars side dodged by financial constraints, which have forced their players abscond from training in recent weeks. Coach Fred Kajoba says his players are down on motivation after missing their salaries for nine months.

However he expects them to put up their best against KCCA.
