In the aftermath, Express players and fans were beaten up by the soldiers while others were arrested and dumped in military cells. It is now 44 years since this infamous incident, here is a look at Robert Kiberu’s Express FC side that played in this grudge game and what they are doing now.

Fred Lukwago: He was in goal that fateful day and played a key role in the defeat against Simba. He later moved to Nakivubo Boys (now SC Villa) where he spent decades as a goalkeeping coach. He passed on Novem- ber 4, 2009.

Fred Sekasi: The energetic right full-back moved to Nakivubo Boys until retirement. He later served as the club’s team manager. He died September 17, 1995.

Ashe Mukasa: The defender moved to KCC FC in 1978 but rejoined Express for a second spell after it was resurrected. After retirement in 1980, he went on to pursue a career in management and now loves a quiet life in Bunga.

Sam ‘Kapeera’ Tamale: The centre-back moved to Volcano FC in 1978 and a year later joined Nakivubo Boys, where he joined the club management upon retirement. He passed away on November 13, 2016.

Wilson Nsobya: The centre back was the captain of the team. He moved to Volcano and later Nakivubo Boys before turning to coaching after retirement in 1981. He passed on in the 1990s.

Badru Kakembo: The midfielder played the entire game. He had stints at Volcano and later Nakivubo Boys before ending his career in 1981. He stays in Konge, a Kampala suburb.

Mike Kiganda: The diminutive midfielder was man-of-the-match and it was his dribbling which destroyed the army side that afternoon. He had spells with UCB, Nsambya and Masaka Union before he breathed his last in August, 1985.

Stanley Mubiru: The winger had a good game but he was substituted in the last part and was replaced with Richard Kembo.

He had spells with UCB and Nsambya before returning to Express in 1979. He passed on in January, 1989.

Edward Sekisaka: The striker joined UCB after the ban of Express and in 1979 crossed to Nakivubo Boys. He retired in 1982 and stays in Mukono.

Edward Semanda: He scored the opening goal of that match in the 13th minute but he was replaced by Emma Mugerwa. After the ban, he crossed to Volcano and later joined Nakivubo Boys. He has since passed on.

Richard Kembo: He was introduced into this game in the second half and sealed Express’ win in the 79th minute. He later turned out for Nytil after the ban but he has since passed on.

Emma Mugerwa: He replaced Edward Semanda late in the game. He had spells at UCB, Nsambya, Maroons and Spear Motors. He passed on in 1993.

John Ntensibe: The winger had a good game but was substituted late in the match. He had spells at UCB, Nsambya and Masaka Union, among others. After retirement, he joined politics and lives at Najjanankumbi.

Moses Ndaula: The gifted winger played the last 15 minutes of the game. After the ban, he switched to Nakivu- bo Boys but later returned to Express. He died on July 8, 2021.
