VINCENT SEMANOBE
He joined Coffee FC right away from Lubaga SS and became the mainstay for the Bugolobi-based side. In 1980s, the industrious midfielder was part of a tough Coffee side due to his solidity. However, like all players who played for Coffee, he did not win the league title.
FRED MAKHOHA
He was a hot prospect when he moved from Jinja-based Nile FC to SC Villa in 1995. However, his questionable discipline forced the Villa Park side to drop him at the end of 1997 and he moved to Umeme in 1998.
Unfortunately, the Jogoos went ahead to win seven league titles in a row (1998 to 2004) after his departure.
SIMON OMBA
The hugely-talented Lufula FC midfielder was highly sought after by Kampala clubs. Express finally signed him in 1981 but two years later, he swapped the Red Eagles for Coffee FC. He retired in 1986 without the league title.
ABBEY NASUR
The forward was a workaholic at Prisons FC where he was a consistent performer for the eight years (1971-1979). After failing to win in Uganda, he moved to Kenya’s Gor Mahia where he attained league success before he ended his career in the late 1980s.
CHARLES OGWANG
The former Uganda Commercial Bank (UCB FC) custodian moved to Umeme in 1994 and turned into a prolific striker. However, despite ending the 1997 season as a joint league top scorer along with KCC’s Jackson Mayanja with 18 goals, Ogwang ended his career without the much-needed league silverware.
ALDOF BOLA
He arrived at the Uganda Electricity Board (UEB) side in 1994 and took the league by storm, emerging as top scorer with 21 goals. SC Villa hurried to sign him in 1995 but he turned out to be a flop due to injuries, and left in 1996.
JOACKIM MATOVU
The diminutive winger joined Express from Kibuli SS in 1985 and became a key player in the Red Eagles side. Besides creating assists, Matovu was a scorer of vital goals but those goals were not enough to give his club the league title in the five years he stayed there. His move to KCC in 1993 did not yield any results.
GODFREY NYOLA
The no-nonsense defender was at the top of his game at Jinja-based Nytil FC before putting pen to paper at Express FC in 1986. At the time of his retirement from football in 1991, the club had not won the league.
BAKER SEKITYA
The elegant keeper featured for Nsambya FC where he played all his top-flight football until 1979 before relocating to the United Kingdom where he stays to date.
JOHN MAPEERA
He was one of the best defenders in the league for more than a decade. However, despite featuring for several top-flight teams such as Lufula, Coffee and KCC FC, he never got the league title on his CV.
MIKE MUTEBI
The versatile defender-cum- midfielder spent much of his career at the Luzira-based Bell FC, which he captained until 1993 when he moved to KCC. Interestingly, he failed to win the league as a player and ended up by leading the Lugogo-based side to three league titles.
MONDAY SEKIZIYIVU
The elegant Uganda Airlines FC custodian was sought after by many clubs but he opted to stay at the Entebbe-based side. Sekiziyivu transferred his outstanding form to Uganda Cranes but remained at his boyhood club, which did not win the league until it folded in 1994.
ANDY LULE
The cool-headed defender joined SC Villa in 1995 from Miracle FC but failed to register a league title. Unfortunately, he moved to Express at the end of 1997 and SC Villa won the league the following year (1998).
