The Uganda People’s Defence Forces Air Force (UPDAF) has launched emergency airdrop food relief operations in South Sudan’s Upper Nile State, where thousands of civilians are stranded in camps amid renewed armed conflict.
The intervention follows a direct request by South Sudan President Salva Kiir, after ground delivery of aid became impossible due to escalating fighting between government forces and those loyal to 1st Vice President Riek Machar.
In recent days, the UPDAF has airlifted and dropped hundreds of metric tonnes of food aid into hard-hit areas, especially Ulang and Nasir counties. The deliveries are part of a multinational humanitarian effort facilitated from Juba international airport, according to Col Chris Magezi, acting UPDF spokesperson.
Violence in the region flared up three months ago, displacing thousands. The fighting has pitted the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF), loyal to Kiir, against the Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLA-IO), a largely Nuer force allied to Machar, who is currently under house arrest.
The SPLA-IO, also referred to as the White Army, has been accused of widespread ethnic massacres, particularly targeting the Dinka community and other rival ethnic groups. The UPDF deployed troops to South Sudan in March 2025 following intelligence that Machar’s forces were on the verge of toppling Kiir’s government.
UPDF’s deployment, sanctioned by South Sudan authorities, was confirmed by Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who stated that the operation’s goal was to support rear security operations around Juba, as well as provide technical military assistance to the SSPDF.
Despite gains in Juba’s stability, much of the Upper Nile region remains engulfed in violence and humanitarian catastrophe. Civilians continue to endure famine conditions in overcrowded camps, with no significant progress made in diplomatic efforts to resolve the political deadlock between Kiir and Machar.

my solutions to south Sudan conflict:
1. Air drop guns and tell those guys to go and dig- who will stop them from farming when they can repel the invaders ? (If everyone one has a gun who will risk eating the bullet first, it is less risky to shoot at an unarmed civilian than at an armed person- might be a navy seal under cover)
2. Air drop bombs (not to kill them), so that they can use them to kill each other and we get land for settling our nomadic pastoralists, balaalo, but with that obsolete culture, will they stay there or will they come back following grass and water for their animals ? (Naye bazunga…do they settle down long enough to do anything constructive ? )
3 Air drop Ugandan prostitutes, these guys have a high build up of testestorone . Obviously with their women being indistinguishable from men you can tell where I am coming from and going (of course some men like models but being an African man who likes my women resembling sacks of potatoes, I assume every other person prefers my tastes), it will ease up the tension and they will see things clearly, why do you thing we do not have frequent civil wars in Uganda ?
Katonda yatuweesa emikono ebiri, all they need is some fat blankets and peace…
me, understood.
With the war in Sudan, how can we understand that Ugandans, not at armed war, but are slaves of Rwandese Museveni, just look at how Sudanese at armed war against one another, are given free food by so called Uganda People’s Defence Forces Air Force, while Ugandans dig with 18 century tools to ensure they eat!
Why are Sudanese at war against themselves given food by so called Uganda People’s Defence Forces Air Force, while they ignore Ugandans enslavement to Rwandese Museveni, ensuring Ugandans remain poor without say?
But of course, it’s only Ugandans, in UNITY, will ensure they own the zone formed by their tribal lands & govern as they with!
