Two police officers in Agago district have been arrested for allegedly reporting for duty while intoxicated.
Sgt Christopher Onega, the officer-in-charge of the Kotomor police post, and police constable Oscar Okello were apprehended by the Agago resident district commissioner (RDC), James Nabinson Kidega, during a community Baraza on service delivery.
The meeting involved local residents, law enforcement, and other stakeholders. According to RDC Kidega, both officers appeared visibly intoxicated and were deemed unfit for duty.
Onega was found barefoot and out of uniform, while PC Okello was reportedly stumbling and also without shoes. Kidega condemned the officers’ behavior, stressing that law enforcement personnel must maintain high standards of professionalism and discipline at all times, whether on or off duty.
“This kind of conduct is unacceptable and erodes public trust in the police,” Kidega said.
The two officers are currently detained at Patongo Central police station. They face charges of being drunk on duty and negligence of duty. The case has been registered under CRB 29/03/04/2025.
