At least six people lost their lives in a tragic road accident in Bulambuli district on Thursday after a truck veered off the road and rammed into a group of pedestrians.

The accident occurred at Salajevo trading centre along the Kapchorwa-Nabongo road junction. According to Elgon Region police spokesperson Rogers Taitika, the driver of a Fuso truck, registration number UAR 527R, lost control of the vehicle while transporting bananas from Kapchorwa.

The truck struck several pedestrians, killing five on the spot. The driver also succumbed to his injuries, bringing the death toll to six. Three other victims sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Muyembe health centre III.

Taitika noted that police are still investigating the exact cause of the accident.
