A senior three student at Seeta High School-main campus in Mukono, Elishammah Ssesanga, was found dead on Friday morning after reportedly hanging himself in the dormitory.
His body was discovered by fellow students who had woken up for morning preps at around 3am. The shocked students alerted teachers, who later called the police to the scene at around 4 am. The deceased student is said to have attended the evening classes the previous day until 10:00 pm.
However, details about the incident have remained scarce, as the school management has reportedly concealed information from the public.
Officers from Mukono police station, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident and revealed that the body was taken to the city mortuary for a postmortem examination.
According to one Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officer at Mukono police station, Ssesanga allegedly used a rope from a mosquito net to take his own life. The officer further disclosed that the school management had cautioned them against sharing details of the case with the media.
Seeta Schools are owned by the state minister for Higher Education, John Chrysostom Muyingo. This marks the second student death in a Mukono school in just two weeks. Earlier, a senior three student at Mpoma Girls, Carnelian Mary Ndagire, reportedly set herself on fire in protest against returning to the same school.
