A 24-year-old private security guard has been arrested after allegedly shooting dead his colleague at Nile Depot in Kiryatete Cell, Hoima city.
Godfrey Kasaga, who works for Radah Tech Security Company Ltd, allegedly shot Pascal Agenda, also an employee of the company, in the early hours of Saturday.
The incident occurred at about 4:48 am at the depot, where the two guards had been deployed to provide security. According to police, the two guards developed a disagreement over reasons that remain unclear before Kasaga allegedly opened fire on Agenda.
Agenda was shot in the back, head and left arm and died at the scene. James Mugisha, the manager of Radah, said he alerted police after learning about the incident, prompting officers to respond and arrest Kasaga.
The suspect was taken to Hoima City Central Police Station, where he remained in custody as investigations continued. Mugisha said the motive for the shooting had not yet been established.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and said police recovered the firearm allegedly used in the shooting.
Police recovered a SAR gun, registration number UGPSO702601308647, which was loaded with four rounds of ammunition.
Police also retrieved Agenda’s body from the scene and conveyed it to Hoima City Mortuary for a postmortem examination before it was handed over to his relatives for burial arrangements.
Hakiza said investigations were ongoing and that, once completed, the suspect would be arraigned in court and charged with murder.
