The police have released a 40-second audio recording believed to contain the voice of the prime suspect in the recent gruesome murder of an elderly couple in Lugonjo-Nakiwogo, Entebbe Municipality.
The double homicide, which shocked the community earlier this month, occurred just two hours after the victims; David Mutaga, 69, and his wife Deborah Mutaga, 63 hosted a celebratory gathering with friends and relatives.
According to the police, a masked intruder breached their compound during the night and fatally stabbed the couple. The Mutagas had recently returned to Uganda after living in Switzerland for over 30 years. Speaking at a press briefing in Naguru, police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke revealed that detectives have made substantial progress in the investigation.
He appealed to the public to help identify the voice in the audio clip, which police believe could be key to cracking the case.
“We urge anyone who recognizes the suspect’s voice in the recording to come forward and assist our investigation team,” Kituuma said. “We believe that with community support, we believe the suspect can be identified.”
To incentivize cooperation, police have announced a Shs 50 million reward for information leading to the suspect’s arrest. A dedicated tip-off line, 0769 676 917, has been activated to receive credible leads.
“We’ll also be sharing the audio on our official police website in a more audible format. Even journalists can join in the hunt,” Kituuma added.
Investigators say the killing appears to have been premeditated, noting that there were no signs of forced entry or robbery. The couple’s mobile phones and money were left untouched at the scene. While the exact motive remains unclear, detectives are examining the possibility of a long-standing family feud.
According to police sources, David Mutaga reportedly inherited family property but allegedly failed to share it with his siblings. This unresolved dispute may have fueled resentment, particularly after the couple’s return from Europe.
Several individuals who were initially detained have since been released on bond as the investigation continues. “We’ve made significant breakthroughs,” Kituuma said. “But the final piece of the puzzle lies in positively identifying the voice in the audio recording.”
. @mkituuma “On Sunday July 6, 2025, we registered the murder of Mr. Mutaaga David and his wife, Deborah Florence Mutaaga in Entebbe. In collaboration with other security agencies, the police are actively searching for the suspects and gathering evidence.

CLUES :
1- the victims seems to recognize his attacker. “..go to hospital..” was his response to the killer who was expressing his anger that : “..me ,I am not studying….”
This may mean that the victims knew that his killer was either sick , had a mental problem or a substance abuser.
2- the killer`s accent. He did not sound like someone from Buganda or Busoga.
3- I think I hear him calling the wife something like ” Matugga wife” . If true , this may mean that he is an “insider” . ( only insider address other family members by code names
FEEDFORWARD:
Investigators should focus on young male members of the late Mutaga`s family and try to identify one that may have health , mental or social issues. One most probably of school-going age “…I AM not STUDYING..” the killer yelled
He did not say WE are not .. or DID not STUDY.

MBU
I have gone to kill people;
1. I have “cased the joint” for a long time.
2. I know how to expertly “dispatch”- stab under the heart
3. I start shouting when I know there are cameras. “Your husband is …”
He clearly did not come to make announcements or to roast groundnuts…
When you put all those things (above) together.
They do not make sense;
An Expert(knows how to get in and out of a house undetected and where to stab to “dispatch” a person- under the heart) from nowhere starts shouting and talking about his “personal” problems…(to the drunkard a clear misdirection, to the police NOT OPPOSITION)
Bele Denne bring more booze this comedy of saying it is a family member…
It can even be a person sent by “Switzerland” over a “grudge” with a script to read out loud. The clothes are perfectly suited for the deed- maneuverability and little to no items to carry.
This was an expert and out of the league of Uganda Police Force(nomadic pastoralists masquerading as police who I advise to watch “The Mentalist” to get out of that “cow thinking”).
HELLO !!! COLD CASE!
Hiccup
Just know there are really “bad minds” not these “pretenders” out there.
Not every dangerous person makes announcements…some are like silent farts…
Hiccup!
Something else : Since the report above is about the audio , it should have been helpful to print the verbatim of what was said . Why ? Because someone might have ever heard the killer using those words elsewhere. It is easier to identify the owner of words recorded in relation to what someone usually says when that someone is emotionally charged – under situations or interaction that evoke aggressive language and actions.
Unabomber was identified when his own brother read a few of the letters that his killer brother had written ; the brother noticed some of the phrases in the letters and suspected that his twisted but genius brother might be one who was sending those deadly letter bombs, for over 17 years.
After taking some clubs;
1. Who are the deceased? What property was inherited and is allegedly disputed over (Note that this was “leadingly” brought to our attention)?
Being alive to property theft by “some people” Uganda, don’t you think it is a “kill two birds with one stone” situation ?
Kill the “successor ” of the coveted family property and then blame it on the next “obstacle ” family member.
Either he goes to jail and dies “mysteriously” or you scare the family members so much that they dump the property TO YOU.
2. If it was a family member having access to the residence through the party, wouldn’t it have been easier and less messy just to switch out their medications with poisons ?( No media attention and police- can be ruled out as death by natural causes)
No, I am not a psycho.
I am just being real.
I do not trust anything in Uganda. Time has shown that not everything is as it seems…(these police that hire and promote known thugs to positions of authority…)
Hiccup!
I advise the family and any right thinking Ugandan, in such above cases, to hire private investigators.
1. The guys you see in those offices, most not all, were not the best fit.
We knew them growing up or studying.
2. The really sharp guys are on the street or outside countries doing “kyeyo”
If the private investigator hits a “road block” from either any “police” or “army” outfit, PAY THEM and start suspecting what I usually suspect.
Nomadic pastoralists have the mindset of “let us rob and run”, do not expect such people to setup or maintain long-term systems(no insult just my description- please observe how certain institutions are run. You might think the people “running” them have where they are going after ruining them)
Cow-thinking means a life based purely on migratory thinking “once we finish “grass” here, we shall move on..” What if there is a drought ? Can’t you conserve some “grass” for emergencies ?
If the private investigator hits a “road block ” from police or the army, PAY THEM. Case closed know who to suspect(Kaweesi, Kilumira, Kagezi, etc- these are their OWN how will they then treat yours?)
The problem with Ugandans, we over sympathise. People should get angry without painkillers/Panadol/sympathy and demand answers or show incompetence “das boot” .
I want you to get angry
1. Why should police arrest and advertise “people of interest” ? They have basically ruined the murder investigation from the start.
2. They, internal affairs, bought street cameras, when are they useful?
3.Kiteezi, Bijambiya, Moslems, Kayira,etc
