Police in Nateete yesterday Monday shot dead one suspect as they foiled an alleged robbery attempt at two Fortebet companies.

According to Patrick Onyango, Kampala metropolitan police (KMP) spokesperson, the suspects, armed with pangas, attacked the first Fortebet branch, making off with an unspecified amount of money. They then proceeded to another branch at Nateete Business Center with the intent to rob again.

However, a swift police intervention thwarted their plans. Officers responded to the distress call and quickly arrived at the scene. Upon noticing the police presence, the suspects attempted to flee, and in the ensuing confrontation, one of the suspects, identified as 25-year-old Kayongo Benard Nadumba, was shot to neutralize the threat. Nadumba was rushed to Mulago hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Police recovered a wallet and a bunch of keys from the scene of the crime. Meanwhile, the regional flying squad from KMP South has been deployed to track down the remaining five suspects who managed to escape. Investigations into the robbery attempt are ongoing as authorities work to apprehend the other suspects involved in the crime.
