The National Unity Platform (NUP) coordinator for Teso sub-region, Jonathan Okware, has been arrested alongside three others in Toroma County, Katakwi district, for allegedly taking photos and videos of police officers.
Okware was arrested last Friday, September 5, together with David Livingston Lima, NUP chairperson for Toroma County, Stephas Aule, and one unidentified individual. According to George William Okoit, a NUP mobilizer in Teso, party members rushed to Katakwi Central Police Station after learning of the arrests.
However, the exact charges were not immediately made clear. Okoit alleged that Okware’s arrest was linked to “misuse of a computer” after he used his phone to capture photos and videos of police during the incident, despite not being accredited as a journalist.
“We managed to get police bond for two of our people, but Okware and Lima remained in custody. They never believed we could nominate more than seven candidates,” Okoit said.
He further claimed the arrests were politically motivated, aimed at intimidating and weakening NUP’s growing presence in Teso. He noted that authorities had previously dismissed the party’s influence in the region, but its ability to field more than seven candidates in Katakwi, traditionally a stronghold of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) had unsettled political opponents.
Efforts to contact Katakwi district police commander (DPC) Jude Nasucha and the East Kyoga regional police commander (RPC) were unsuccessful, as both did not answer calls. However, police sources confirmed that the suspects remain in custody, though their charges are still under review.

Indeed NUP continues to put its diehard supporters in tremendous life and limb over the greed for power by the NRM political party. By the NUP pronouncing itself as going in national democratic elections with the dictatorship of NRM under a protest vote, well it continues to put its young supporters in peril. The best NRM understands of a strong opposition is for the National Unity Party to go back to the bushes of Luweero or Acholiland so that their democratic interests and differences for the unity of Uganda, are sorted out clearly by another civil war of armed struggle! For the political party of KY or Kabaka Yekka, that is another of the many unnecessary civil wars of destruction that continue to be played out by the so called military defenders of this poor African country of Uganda!
The military might and the brutal police of this poor African country unfortunately believes that they alone by the power of the gun(AK47) can unifier the 15 tribal states that peacefully formulated the African country of Uganda some 66 years ago! Such an African military government of very much educated African elites is certainly deluded one hundred percent!
Those of us who read “Animal Farm” while doing Literature in the 1970s and 80s understand better what this rogue regime is, and the hell it has imposed on Ugandans.
It is a pitty that a country that boasts of being administered by “highly qualified” graduates has continuously sent its supposed to be own children to death beds while caring less about their political, health, economic … conditions but is deeply entreched in violation of human dignity, social, economic and health sufferings among the venerable; while on the other hand is preoccupied by how best to die in power as a means to escape Intarnational and Local courts of justice for all the crimes committed. But why? Is it not for fear to be seen tried in courts in and outside Uganda for all the crimes committed in and outside Uganda?
At this rate of mischiefs and stonewalling the opposition political parties from doing what the NRM party freely does, in as far as the nominations for the 2026 General Election is a ticket to anarchy, violence, bloodshed and/or deaths.
In other words, if democracy is all about TRUST; who in his/her right state of mind would like to participate in such a DISHONEST and ANACHIC process, in order to vote for the choice of candidate/s?
At least not me! I would rather let the incompetent thugs have their field days.
Lucky enough the 40-day/years fate of thieves/thuggery is inevitable and inescapable. It is coming to 40 years of choregraphed political injustice and therefore, Ugandans may not know what fate exactly will hit the regime in the face.
Like Osama Bin Laden, ask Muhammar Gadhafi soul, whose body/ashes was probably scattered in the wilderness of the Sahara Desert, or sunk at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea (buried at Sea), weighed down with fishing net Lead (heaviest metal/substance).
Ask Bashar al-Assad of Syria and family, where is he? In Russia where his fingers, toes and backsides are being frozen in the frigid Russian weather (Gulag).
