Local musician Bosmic Joyce Otim, who is facing charges of causing grievous bodily harm, has asked the Kitgum Chief Magistrate’s court to allow him and the complainant to pursue an out-of-court settlement.
Otim, who is out of prison on a Shs 2 million cash bail, made the request through his lawyer when the case came up for hearing on Thursday, August 13.
State Attorney Yusuf Ssali told court that both parties had expressed interest in resolving the matter outside court.
“The matter was coming up for hearing, but both parties have the intention to settle it out of court. They have requested the court to give them time to have a meeting at their home and see how the matter can be resolved,” Ssali said.
Otim’s lawyer, Robert Okot, supported the request and asked the court to give the parties sufficient time to reconcile while maintaining the existing bail conditions.
“That is the position of the two, and we pray that the court gives them ample time so that reconciliation is done. We further pray that the existing bail terms remain in force until the next date the court gives to listen to the outcome of the mediation,” Okot said.
The request was accepted by the complainant, fellow musician and blogger Alfred Joe Okello, popularly known as KD Kristo Hammer.
Kitgum chief magistrate Robert Ekirita adjourned the case to September 15, 2026, for further hearing and extended Otim’s bail.
Otim is accused of causing grievous harm to Okello. The prosecution alleges that on May 3, 2026, at Corner Mission in Pager Division, Kitgum Municipality, Otim assaulted Okello, causing him serious injuries.
The proposed mediation, if successful, could resolve the dispute without the case proceeding to a full trial, subject to the applicable legal and court procedures.
