The business community and staff of Mutinisa Motors Uganda are still in disbelief over what could have prompted the suspected killer security guard to allegedly murder his boss, whom he was “very close” to.
Anthony Mutinisa, a car dealer in Ntinda. was allegedly shot dead on Sunday by Hillary Byaruhanga, a 28-year-old private security guard attached to Don World Security Limited.
Byaruhanga was apprehended in Kanungu district, Western Uganda, on Monday, as he reportedly attempted to flee to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
According to police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, Mutinisa was attacked on Sunday afternoon at his office at Mutinisa Motors Uganda. Investigations suggest that Byaruhanga shot him once, killing him instantly, before fleeing with an unspecified amount of money and the victim’s Toyota Land Cruiser V8.
Hassan Bukenya, one of Mutinisa’s staff, said Mutinisa had not only trained the suspect to drive but also treated him like a personal assistant.
“We don’t know what prompted Byaruhanga to kill our boss,” Bukenya said. “They were close, and it is only Byaruhanga who can tell us what pushed him to kill someone who liked him so much.”
Preliminary investigations revealed that Byaruhanga first cut off the office’s CCTV connectivity before entering the office. Police found torn curtains, suggesting that Mutinisa struggled to defend himself before being overpowered.
His body was later found near a bathroom, where he had seemingly attempted to hide after being shot.
Rusoke confirmed that Byaruhanga was arrested along with a second suspect, Mark Akampa, who is believed to have conspired with him. The police have since recovered Mutinisa’s vehicle, registration UA 769 BQ, in Katwe Cell, Kihihi town council, Kanungu district.
