A well-known moneylender in Seeta Bajjo, Mukono Municipality, has been stabbed to death by a client who allegedly owed her Shs 18 million.
The deceased, Hamida Mutesi Nalule, aged 35, was reportedly murdered by Elvis Katabaazi, 26, whom she had loaned the money last year. According to Racheal Namwanje, a friend of the deceased, Katabaazi had repeatedly avoided repaying the loan, prompting Nalule to consider involving police or legal authorities.
On Wednesday, Katabaazi allegedly lured Nalule to Nabuti village, under the pretext of resolving the matter before the area LC I chairperson. He claimed he was ready to sign over his house as repayment for the debt.
“I know Katabaazi, and I was around when he took Shs 18 million from her. Katabaazi called her to say that he wanted the matter to be resolved by signing an agreement giving out his house as payment for the loan at the chairperson’s office,” Namwanje said.
Unaware of the deadly trap, Nalule drove Katabaazi to Nabuti in her Toyota Fielder, registration number UBR 959B. Upon arrival, they reportedly found that the chairperson was not at home. Katabaazi then persuaded Nalule to wait.
At around 5 p.m., he suggested another location where the chairperson might be found, leading them to Nyenje road. A few metres off the main road, Katabaazi allegedly attacked Nalule, stabbing her multiple times in the neck and chest.
Witnesses say Nalule managed to stagger out of the vehicle, screaming for help but collapsed and died about 10 metres from her car. Luke Owoyesigyire, deputy spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed the arrest.
Katabaazi used a machete to stab Nalule. The weapon has been recovered, and he is being held on murder charges, Owoyesigyire said.
“Katabaazi is now being held on murder charges. We thank the locals who apprehended him as he was running away. We are collecting all the necessary evidence, and he will be arraigned in courts of law.”
Nalule’s killing has shocked the Seeta community, where she was well known in financial circles. Police say statements have been recorded from eyewitnesses, and further forensic evidence is being collected.

My advice. If someone owes you money and calls you to meet somewhere to get paid, please, please the only place to meet is at your bank. Let your bank know. Complete the deposit slip give it to him and make the payment at the counter. Never accept cash from that person for you to take to the bank. You will waylaid on the way.

That is why modern lenders are wiser to ask questions that matter to their businessess other than lending their money blindly. It is very clear that Katabazi was telling lies from day one when he embarked on taking such an expensive loan and putting down his residence as collateral. He never talked about such a very important decision with his wife! Such an example is what most of the public of this country is advising the big local and international lenders of this long serving government of Uganda. The IMF and World bank seem never to listen to the citizens of Uganda when they continously lend the government lots of money knowing very well that at the end of the day it cannot pay such astronomical national debts even if it means constantly putting at gun point the people of this country!
For the IMF and WB, its different from private loans. There is Sovereignity international bond so if the old man borrows to enjoy with his son and family, we are still liable to pay. But he borrows to finance public goods such as roads. The problem us that we are indifferent as to the quality of goods provided- plastic roads that get damaged within 3 weeks. So its our responsibility to monitor them!
1.It is worth noting that the residents of that area can carry out citizens arrest on a murder suspect yet they cannot do the same for “their own” who only God knows will be killed after being abducted. Some guy MP Mulima Mayuni Abdullah always reminds the nation on radio…Are these things selective ?
2.It is sad she got stabbed but where does she get that money where others cannot get it ? (In a country, Uganda, with economic growth/middle income status which borrows money to pay its workers- I would assume this would show that the govt does not have a profitable national income generating activity and that is why it borrows to pay debts so again, where does “Nalule” get that money to lend to others in a poor country like Uganda with no seriously profitable businesses to tax so as to pay it’s liabilities but instead borrows, because it cannot get enough money through taxes, to pay for things.
How stupid can Ugandans be ?
They must be pretty stupid to believe that the Ugandan economy is doing well when their purse holder is borrowing to pay workers and buy things.
Or to believe that people with no discernable talent can acquire huge amounts of money to lend to people with discernable talent with this high level of theft of national funds…
Again, Rest In Peace( is there an alternative) but you had alot of question marks.
It’s funny how LAZY and Incompetent ppl always want to think that everyone is like them. You spend your meager earnings in bars and when you see those disciplined enough to save and grow their income you start accusing them of having gotten their wealth illegally. You are your own downfall and your failure belongs to you alone
You might say whatever you want but suspicions will always arise.
Where does it make sense where a hardworking person(has managed to at least build a house) becomes so financially stressed that he has to borrow money from an individual with no track record of hardwork(where, which business did you do to acquire that money that you lend out?)
For the meagre earnings spent in bars( where are the jobs to earn those meagre earnings from?)
You have nailed it Griffo!
The business of being a loan shark is dangerous.
Some of the people you see lending money in Uganda, are in partnership with nkuba kyeeyos outside the country, who send their hard earned money to Uganda to try to make their money bring in more money. I know several Nkuba Kyeeyos that are in that business.
