Police in Kabale is holding a twenty-two-year-old man for allegedly injecting his two nephews with blood infected with HIV/Aids.
The suspect, Bosco Ngusi, a resident of Hakabungo cell in Mukaranje ward, Katuna town council is said to have injected the two kids on December 12.
Katuna town council LC III chairperson, Nelson Nshangabashaija, says Ngusi used a syringe to draw infected blood from his body before injecting it into the two children – all aged four.
Nshangabashaija says that the suspect has been staying with his grandmother and is believed to have acquired the virus from his late parents.
Elly Maate, the police spokesperson for Kigezi region says that the suspect was arrested on Saturday from his hideout in Katuna town council. He is being detained at Kabale central police station.
“He is said to have spread the contagious disease, HIV/Aids to [the] kids. He used a syringe. He got blood from himself and injected the two kids on their buttocks. Actually, this is the worst scandal of the season the person being so malicious to his own sister’s innocent kids. Intentional transmission of infectious disease to poor innocent kids! We have him and after investigations, he must be aligned in court because such people living in our communities are very dangerous and deadly,” Maate said.
In January 2014, Rosemary Namubiru, a 65-year-old nurse at Victoria Medical Centre in Kampala was arrested for allegedly injecting a two-year-old baby with blood infected with HIV/Aids. She was later released by court in November 2014.
