Two suspected terrorists were shot dead by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) counter-terrorism unit in Munyonyo, a leafy Kampala suburb, in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

According to security sources, the suspects who were reportedly armed were intercepted and killed during an intelligence-led operation as part of heightened security measures ahead of today’s Martyrs Day celebrations.

Colonel Chris Magezi, the acting director of Defence Public Information, confirmed the operation, saying it was based on credible intelligence linked to potential threats to national security.

“The security services are on heightened alert to ensure the Martyrs Day celebrations proceed without disruption,” Magezi said in a statement issued Tuesday morning.

He urged the public to remain calm but vigilant, and to report any suspicious individuals, objects, or activities to security authorities for immediate attention.

Martyrs Day, held annually on June 3, commemorates Uganda’s Christian martyrs and is one of the country’s most significant religious and public events. Pilgrims from across the country and beyond typically converge at the Namugongo shrines to honour the occasion.

In the lead-up to this year’s celebration, security agencies have been conducting routine sweeps and surveillance in and around Kampala, with a particular focus on potential soft targets. While the identities and affiliations of the deceased suspects have not been released, authorities say investigations are ongoing.

  1. One believes this long serving African government is up to something sinister. Especially where it has locked up opposition fraternity as terrorists bent on killing President Museveni for staying in state power for ever! It is all about witch hunting so that there are no single political terrorist living in this poor African Christian country!

  2. An eye witness who has no reason to lie has said that a woman tried to enter the church ; at the entry , she hesitated after she saw security personel checking everyone. She then quickly turned back and jumped on a waiting Boda Boda , which immediately exploded killing her and the rider. The two dead bodies and the bike caught fire.
Why then does Magezi and other so called security people claim to have shot dead the terrorists because of “incredible intelligence”

    1. same reason Bush and Blair attacked Iraq claiming they had “incredible intelligence” that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, yet there was not even a stone

    2. Banange Jes, a bomb that explodes and only kills the boda boda rider and his passenger and lights the boda on fire, in a crowded are…is that really a bomb ?
Oba kabade kakebbe ka doom mosquito killer ?

      1. Chief Me, the video is out. It dispels Magezi`s lie that their “intelligence” led the shooting dead the terrorists. It was definately an explosive of some sort… not really the kind that was going to kill thousands of people. It also shows that the boda boda was not speeding like someone was chasing it down.

  3. kabayekka, agreed, but,

Unless Ugandans stop Rwandese Museveni in UNITY& become owners of the zone formed by their tribal lands & govern as they wish, UPDF is Rwandese Museveni’s army ensuring his family business, helped by police, parliament…!

UPDF is a terrorist army that belongs to Museveni, but once Ugandans say NO to the tribalistic system & UNITE to block him, will they erase Ugandans to ensure his lifetime rule?

UPDF has joined Sudan & S. Sudan wars, so will the 2 Sudan reform/become one again, then come back to own Uganda in the end?

Ugandans MUST wake up, NOW or they are helping Museveni sink them to a point of no return!

  4. First shoot dead people then have on going investigations if you already have credible intelligence. How does the above story make sense ?

  5. I have just read the article about bombers in the Daily monitor.
It has more questions than answers…
ADF is a terrorist group, most of them come out to advertise that they spread terror- “…people in munyonyo (30km away from namugongo) beware of the ADF,
why doesn’t it come out to thump it’s chest ?

  6. Everyone. Please keep this article for posterity as well as the video on x/Twitter if we are tired of being fooled (wetuba nga tukoye otusiliwaza).
Sorry for the blackmail but this thing of telling Ugandans made up stories like as if we are idiots has to stop…
A quote from the wire -“smart criminals make smarter policemen who can catch then, dense criminals lead to dense policemen…
If Ugandans are awake/conscious/tebabongota, then they will force the government to observe a high standard of conduct…
Please shame some of these individuals, you go to the same churches that they go too.
