Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, also the interim president of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), has been officially nominated to seek re-election for the mayor’s seat.
His nomination was confirmed on Friday at the Electoral Commission’s Kampala district returning officer, Rashid Hasakya. Lukwago arrived at the nomination centre accompanied by a large entourage that included his wife, Zawedde, deputy mayor Doreen Nyanjura, and other prominent PFF leaders.
Following his nomination, Lukwago condemned the police’s actions, stating that his team was met with violent blockades and tear gas while en route to Ntinda. He reported that two boda-boda riders were knocked down, and several members of his entourage were briefly detained.
“We embarked on our journey peacefully, but en route, we faced brutal police action… I condemn this in the strongest possible terms,” he said, emphasizing that candidates should be able to engage with the public freely during the election period.
Lukwago also used the platform to reaffirm his commitment to protecting public land and properties in Kampala. He warned against “land grabbers” who he claimed are attempting to seize public assets like markets, playgrounds, and schools.
He asserted that he is a major obstacle to these schemes, which he argues are often disguised as “development.”
He emphasized that his top priority for the next term is to protect the city’s public assets while ensuring sustainable development. Lukwago emphasised that his top priority for the upcoming term is protecting the city’s public assets while ensuring Kampala is developed and transformed.
“I will continue to fight against the pervasive cartels in Kampala and protect the will of the people,” he added.
Lukwago’s official entry into the race intensifies the competition for the mayoral seat. Other confirmed contenders include Ronald Balimwezo Nsubuga of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Beatrice Mao from the Democratic Party (DP), and independent candidate Nabilah Naggayi Ssempala.

Of course these are the famous Ganda types of greedy politicians who are well paid to continue to keep this long serving government in Entebbe state house. As NRM is determined to govern this country until Jesus comes back to earth so are these sneaker politicians resolute to see to it that there are no major changes that should occur to modernize Kampala international city. Up to now the greedy African executives of this African city have not a single programme to start to remove the mountain of rubbish that has been pilling up for many years and counting at Kiteezi dumpsite. Of course the political hypocrite NRM government seems to have all the trillion of shillings to sponsor fake elections of many lies by 2026!
The contest between Lukwago and Balimwezo means that the opposition will have at least one seat less. Only one of them can win, yet both currently have seats. And that is if NRM doesn’t snatch it from them and they both head to the trenches..or is it channels? The calculation here is not clear.
