The National Resistance Movement (NRM) registrar for Manwoko village in Kitgum has been arrested on suspicion of forging results during the party’s recent local council primaries.
Charles Ouma is accused of manipulating the vote count in favour of a candidate for the Labongo Amida sub-county chairperson race.
According to Joe Oloya, Aswa Regional Police public relations officer, a video that has since gone viral shows Ouma skipping votes from No. 39 to 60 while tallying ballots for incumbent Geoffrey Komakech Alulu.
Oloya said the inconsistency raised concerns, leading to Ouma’s arrest by a police officer assigned to the electoral desk at Kitgum central police station. Ouma is currently facing preliminary charges of forgery and uttering false documents.
The final results, as released by Kitgum district NRM election officer Simon Owacgiu, showed a different outcome from the alleged fraud.
Simon Owacgiu was declared the NRM flag bearer for the Labongo Amida sub-county chairperson position with 719 votes (44.1 per cent). He defeated incumbent Geoffrey Komakech Alulu, who received 413 votes (25.4 per cent), and Moses Odokonyero, who obtained 497 votes (30.5 per cent).
