A tragic road accident along the Kisoro-Chahafi road, Kisoro district, claimed the life of a 12-year-old boy and left 12 other juveniles injured.

The deceased, Bright Irakoze, a resident of Mupaka village in Chahafi town council, died on the spot. He was among several passengers seated on top of bags of beans when the accident occurred.

The incident happened on Saturday in Mupaka village, South Ward, when a Mitsubishi Fuso truck, registration number UBN 328X, carrying about 60 bags of beans from Gahenerezo and Mupaka villages, failed to ascend a hill. The vehicle reversed uncontrollably and overturned, leading to the casualties.

The injured include Mark Bayizere (9), Gerald Niyomuchamanza (12), Daudi Murengezi (9), Nafutari Iratuzi (13), Medard Hakizimana (9), Joab Niyongabo (13), Patrick Niyongabo (8), all residents of Chahafi Town Council, along with five others whose identities are yet to be confirmed.

According to Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region police spokesperson, the injured were rushed to Chahafi health centre IV for treatment.
