An attempt by Senior Commissioner of Police Wilberforce William Kototyo, 60, to stay on the job beyond his retirement deadline, has been blocked by the inspector general of police, Gen Kale Kayihura.
Kayihura wrote on January 11, ordering Kototyo to hand over office after he learned that the CIID boss’ contract had expired in August 2016 and wasn’t renewed.
According to our sources, Kototyo had unsuccessfully tried to have his contract renewed. Kototyo clocked the retirement age of 60 on August 8, 2016, and Kayihura picked on that in his letter to the long serving-police officer.
“Records available in your file indicate that you were born on 8th August, 1956. This means that you clocked the mandatory retirement age of 60 years on 8th August, 2016,” Kayihura wrote to Kototyo.
“Accordingly, you are required to hand over office and all the government properties in your possession,” Kayihura’s letter added.
Interviewed for a comment at the weekend, Kampala Metropolitan police spokesman Emilian Kayima said he couldn’t comment on the matter. Kototyo has been head of the economic desk at CIID headquarters Kibuli.
One of the prominent cases he handled while in charge was an investigation into the activities of Uganda Red Cross Society, which led to the arrest and prosecution of its former boss, Michael Nataka.
