Matthew Kanyamunyu, his brother Joseph Kanyamunyu and girlfriend Cynthia Munangwari are suspected of being behind the shooting Kenneth Akena Watmon on November 12. Akena died hours later at Norvik Hospital.

The presiding magistrate, Noah Ssajjabi Norbert, says that since inquiries are still ongoing, they cannot proceed with the case. He says the trio would remain remanded at Luzira prison.

The shooting is reported to have happened at or near the Game Stores in Kampala, after the deceased had reportedly brushed a car in which two of the suspects were driving.

 
Present at the court hearing was Kitgum Municipality MP Beatrice Anywar, the uncle to the deceased Gasper Komakech, the brothers and sisters of the deceased among others who were all donned in black T-Shirts calling for justice for Akena.

Anywar told URN that although the case might delay, they are glad the suspects are still being held. She says as Members of Parliament, they are planning an impromptu visit to Luzira to ascertain whether the suspects are actually on remand.

She also noted that police and the family are sharing information and also leaders are getting updated by police on the matter.

Meanwhile although Kanyamunyu’s lawyers wanted the press outside of court, the magistrate requested the journalists only to step out of the dock and behave professionally.

In his last words, Akena reportedly pinned Matthew Kanyamunyu and the girlfriend as having shot him. Ever since the shooting, police have said they have not recovered the gun used in the shooting, cartridges and the crime scene is not yet definite
