Education minister Janet Museveni has advised head teachers to report ministry officials that force them to admit students that are not on the initial placement lists.

She said this at the opening of the Senior 5 placement exercise at Lugogo yesterday.

“Head teachers should disregard special admission requests, meaning there will be no lists from me or lists that originate either from the ministry or any other special interest groups,” she said.

“Ignore all these commissioners who will come with lists of students and report them directly to the permanent secretary. In case you don’t report, head teachers will be held accountable for every single student admitted otherwise into their schools.”

Meanwhile, John Chrysostom Muyingo, the state minister for higher education, has urged schools proprietors to be ‘fair’ to parents while increasing tuition fees.

Muyingo said there is a national outcry at the rate which schools are increasing fees.

“If there is need to have any fees increment for government-aided schools and private schools, the management committee should decide on the fees and later send the figures to the ministry for approval by the permanent secretary,” Muyingo said.

He said schools that have already increased fees should write to the ministry’s permanent secretary, Alex Kakooza, to put their records right. He commended schools that have in the past sought government’s approval to increase fees.

Top schools have charged senior five students fees ranging from Shs 700,000 to Shs 2m.
