Iganga Woman member of parliament, Hailat Kaudha Grace is dead.

Born on October 14, 1986 Kaudha, who was serving her first term in parliament, passed away last night at Mulago hospital. She was five months pregnant.

Parliament’s director of communication and public affairs, Chris Obore, says Kaudha died at Mulago hospital where she had been referred with pregnancy-related complications.

“The information we have is that she first checked in at Case Clinic where there was no gynaecologist on duty. She was later referred to Mulago hospital in Kawempe,” says Obore.

RIP: Hilat Kaudha Grace

According to Obore, Kaudha experienced pre-eclampsia, a pregnancy related complication characterised by high blood pressure and swelling mostly in the face, hands and feet. The condition usually begins after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Obore says the body of Kaudha is currently still at the hospital pending burial arrangements. She will be buried tomorrow in Iganga.

Kaudha replaced Olivia Kabaale Kwagala as Iganga Woman MP last year. In May this year, she survived a motor accident when a truck rammed into the back of her newly acquired vehicle registration number UAY838W. She escaped unhurt.

Kaudha is the third legislator to die this year. Annie Logiel, then Moroto Woman MP, succumbed to brain cancer on February 14 while Cyrus Amodoi Imalingat, who represented Toroma County, was among 10 people who died in a Jinja highway motor accident a month later.

According to the National Health Survey, 16 women in Uganda die everyday from pregnancy complications.
