One person has been confirmed dead and two others critically injured after a hand grenade under their custody exploded in Ntoroko district.
The incident happened on the night of January 2, 2017.
The deceased was yesterday identified as Agaba Tumushabe, 25, while the injured are Ahebwa Agaba, 23, and Murungi Agaba, 20, both from the same family in Rwangara village, Kanara sub-county.
The injured were yesterday receiving treatment at Buhinga hospital in Fort Portal town, Kabarole district.
According to Rwenzori West regional police spokesperson Lydia Tumushabe, the Agabas could have tampered with a grenade that their brother, a one Corporal Eric Tumusiime Agaba, who is attached to Jinja Central police station, might have left at their home when he paid them a visit.
Tumushabe says Cpl Agaba, who has since been summoned to record a statement with police, might be charged with rush and neglect of arms leading to death.
Police have cautioned the public against tampering with any arms and ammunitions that they come across; instead, they should report to the nearest security agency.
