Aggrey Bagiire, the state minister for transport, has said plans to develop a second international airport at Kabaale in Hoima district are in advanced stages.
This was part of an interactive workshop held at Imperial Royale hotel on March 3 aimed at finding solutions towards improvement of service delivery in procedures for licensing air operators, aviation crew and development of infrastructure.
“We are still working around financing the project and we hope it will be sorted in the coming weeks,” he said.
Some of the resolutions from the workshop include setting up of an aviation appeals tribunal by the ministry, establishment of a service charter and amendment of the stringent licensing regulations.

Meanwhile, Monica Azuba Ntege, the minister of works and transport, has commended the board and management of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for engaging aviation stakeholders.
Ntege said aviation was a highly-specialized discipline that called for regular interactions with stakeholders to freely express their views on areas for improvement.
“Stakeholder engagements of this nature are well in line with the provisions of the Convention on International Civil Aviation,” she said.
Richard Ruhesi, the CAA director, air navigation services, said the airspace management system at Entebbe airport has been upgraded at a cost of 380,000 Euros.
“In addition, CAA signed a contract with Indra Sistemas of South Africa to upgrade the existing air traffic control radar and airspace management system for 1.1 million Euros,” he said.
The developments will lead to enhanced multi-sensor surveillance tracking, processing and display of electronic flight strips and enhanced safety nets, among others.
