The fire which is suspected to have resulted from an electric circuit, began at 5:30am. David Mangali, a vendor says that he was notified of the fire at 6:00am but was unable to rescue his property.
The market chairperson, Ayub Kitamirike says that a big blast from one of the fridges signalled the fire to vendors who had already reported in the morning for work. Kitamirike states that it is the third time the market have been gutted by fire in a period of 10 months. He blames the police for not releasing reports on the causes of the fire outbreaks.Â
Kiira region police fire officer, Collins Agaba says that investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of the fire outbreak. He adds that the main cause of fire outbreaks in Jinja markets is negligence of some vendors who either leave their charcoal stoves burning or use illegal power connections. Agaba however, dismissed claims that fire reports are not made adding at all the said reports were presented to the market leader for perusal.   Â
