The Kingdom of Denmark has reaffirmed its commitment to Uganda, emphasising a dynamic and evolving partnership grounded in shared values and local impact.

This was reached at during its second annual Danish Partnership Day last week. Under the theme of “Power of Partnerships: Delivering Together for Local Impact,” this year’s celebration, held in conjunction with Denmark’s Constitution Day, a day that honours civic participation and democracy, gathered Ugandan government leaders, civil society representatives, and private sector stakeholders to take stock of the growing bilateral cooperation.

Held at the residence of the Danish Ambassador to Uganda, the event featured a local Baraza format, centred on “Ekyoto” (traditional fireplace), embracing Uganda’s tradition of communal storytelling and dialogue.

While speaking at the ceremony, the Danish Ambassador to Uganda, Her Excellency Signe Winding Albjerg, emphasised the importance of trust, openness, and shared responsibility in the partnership between Denmark and Uganda.

Adding that Uganda is significantly benefiting from its relationship with Denmark through support that is rooted in local needs and sustainable development.

“We believe real, lasting change comes from working together and staying focused on what matters locally,” she said.

She pointed out that Denmark’s support has helped Uganda with critical sectors such as climate change adaptation, private sector growth (particularly in agriculture and the coffee value chain), and refugee management.

The minister for Foreign Affairs, Jeje Odongo, expressed deep gratitude for Denmark’s longstanding support and underscored the strength of the relationship between Uganda and Denmark. He reflected on Denmark’s early assistance after the NRM came to power, stating that it provided essential humanitarian aid.

The minister emphasised that Denmark continues to support Uganda’s development journey by walking alongside the country’s transformation journey, highlighting key areas of cooperation, including refugee management, value addition, digital transformation, and human capital development, noting that these collaborations have been vital to Uganda’s progress.

“We are especially grateful to Denmark for its long-standing support of our refugee response. Denmark’s support to Uganda’s implementation of the Global Compact on Refugees and the Comprehensive Refugee Response Framework is a testament to the humanitarian development peace, development next as in action.

He urged for a deeper partnership, stating that Denmark’s support would persist and play an essential role in Uganda’s future, reaffirming the enduring friendship and mutual commitment between the two nations.

  1. Denmark is laughing at POWERLESS tribally divided ruled Ugandans & is telling the world that, owned by Rwandese Museveni since 1986, Uganda is a democracy & should remain so & Ugandans should hold on to what Museveni gave them!

    +70% of Ugandans are poor without Public/Social Serviced, but Denmark is happy & encourges Ugandans to keep Museveni on, how INHUMAN!
