First responders at Namisindwa church collapse

More than ten women were injured on Sunday when a church building collapsed during a Sunday service in Namisindwa district, eastern Uganda.

The incident occurred at the Spiritual Born Again Church in Namutokholo II village, Bukokho parish, Bukokho sub-county. According to John Wafula, the LCIII chairperson of Bukokho sub-county, the building suddenly gave way in the afternoon, trapping worshippers under the debris.

Neighbours quickly came to the scene to assist in rescuing those who were buried. Wafula criticized the church’s pastor, Moses Namukowa Nakhwashe, for conducting services in a dilapidated building and putting the lives of his congregants at risk.

Pastor Nakhwashe, however, offered a different explanation for the collapse, suggesting that the incident was an act of “divine intervention” and that the congregation had relied too heavily on God’s protection.

The injured, all women, sustained various injuries, including broken limbs. They are currently receiving treatment at Magale health center III, Bumbo health center III, and Mbale regional referral hospital.
