China Communications Construction Company has completed the construction of walkways at St Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK), so as to facilitate a good learning environment.
According to Joseph Zheng, the acting country manager of CCCC, they embarked on the project with the aim of improving the education environment in the area they operate in.
He noted that CCCC is passionate about improving communities and that they would continue to promote people’s welfare through such projects. Construction of the walkways took 40 days and cost the construction firm Shs 324 million ($90,000).
“We decided to build new walkways that were in a sorry state at St Mary’s College [in Wakiso] to ease movement by students as they study and also ensure their safety,” said Zheng at the handover ceremony held at the school campus last week on Tuesday.
The SMACK head teacher, Brother Deodati Aganyira, thanked CCCC for its gesture, saying: “After the facelift, the school got a totally-new look and for this we are grateful. On behalf of the school administration, I pledge out total commitment in ensuring that this facility is put to best use for the benefit of the community.”
SMACK has a student population of more than 1,360. This is an increase of nearly 70 per cent compared to 20 years ago, and the college has been upgrading its facilities.
