A fatal accident on Entebbe road yesterday claimed the life of a police officer at the rank of assistant superintendent of police (ASP).

Moses Ocitia, the officer-in-charge of Bulenga police station, died when his car Reg. No. UAD 171W was collided with a Super Custom (UAT 610S) at Lubowa, a Kampala suburb.

Emilian Kayima, the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) spokesman, said Ocitia was pronounced dead on arrival at Mulago hospital where he was rushed.

By press time, his body was still at Mulago hospital for a postmortem. Kayima said both vehicles were towed to Kajjansi police station where the two occupants of the Super Custom were detained after recording statements.

“We are yet to establish the exact cause of the accident. We shall know if one of the vehicles had a mechanical problem and then take the next step,” he said.

Kayima said Ocitia, 32, joined police in 2010 as a cadet officer and since then has been deployed at Bulenga police station.

“We send our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and police fraternity and people of Bulenga where he was the O/C station at the time of his death,” he said.
