The vehicle reportedly lost control and plunged into the river

A tragic road accident along Kanungu road claimed the life of an American tourist and left three others injured on Monday.

Evan Shuldman Harrison, 40, a resident of New York, USA, was killed on the spot after the tourist vehicle they were travelling in, a Toyota Land Cruiser, registration number UAM 271U reportedly failed to brake and plunged into a river.

The tourists were returning from Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, where they had been gorilla tracking. The injured were identified as Zachary Avayou, 39, a resident of Pennsylvania, USA, Fredrick Jeremy Wright, 25, a resident of California, USA and Alpha Dadaire, 33, a resident of Wakiso district, Uganda.

The accident occurred at around 7:00 am near Munyanga Bridge in Kakureiju village, at the border between Buhoma and Butogota town councils.

The victims were immediately rushed to Bwindi Community Hospital in Kanungu for treatment, while the body of the deceased was taken to the hospital mortuary for a post-mortem. The vehicle’s wreckage was later towed to Kihihi police station for inspection as investigations into the accident continue.
