But it has been around for some time and even weathered the Covid lockdown. Despite being by the roadside along Old Kira road near the NUP offices, it is quite hard to spot as it is dwarfed and camouflaged by the towering offices of Pride Microfinance, TLS visa application and UEDCL, yet once inside, you get the utmost home-feel comfort (it is a residential house turned into a restaurant) with a pool table inside.
Their menu is impressively rich and wide, serving nearly every continental dish you know of – so they claim. The ‘continental mixed grill’ consists of beef, grilled chicken, fried eggs and sausages and vegetables of the season complemented with either rice, chips or mashed potatoes.
There was a shortage of beef when I visited; so, only a miserable-looking piece of chicken, three sausages, fried eggs and chips were served.
Whereas the chicken looked orphaned on the plate, it had a great satiating taste and the chips were so finely cut and well-drained of any oils, yet super soft and spotlessly clean that you would be forgiven for thinking they were boiled.
The platter was garnished with lightly buttered and simmered tasty cauliflower florets. There was also fresh cucumber cuttings, all peppered with what tasted like moringa leaves powder. Nothing special about the omelette and sausages. At Shs 30,000, it did not taste nor look worth it.
At least the loose carrot and orange juice without sugar gives the diner the chance to enjoy the citrus and earthy refreshing natural flavours of the two fruits. Â
A glass is sold at Shs 12,000 and although it may appear small for the price, too much of such juice despite its immunity-boosting benefits is said to cause heartburn and kidney problems.
